How to Become a Successful Piano Teacher
Piano

Almost every person on the planet has dreamt, at one point or another, about becoming a great pianist and even those who have given up on that dream are thinking of giving their children the opportunity to learn how to play the piano.

And the best thing about this dream is that it is rarely about getting recognition in some of the great music halls of the world; in fact, more often than not, the dream is about dazzling a couple of good friends on long discarded piano of a beautiful pub or charming that special someone with a little romantic music. And that means that most of these people are not looking for that piano teacher with a Julliard diploma but for someone who can teach them more than perfect timing, someone who can teach them to play for show.

So the most important thing that a piano teacher needs to do in order to become successful is to learn how to play and teach more like Freddie Mercury and less like Franz Liszt. For one, did you know that Freddie only studied piano for 4 years when he was in secondary school? And yet his songs are more alive and convey more feelings to more people than all the classical musical of the world together.

That is not to say that there are not some extraordinarily beautiful songs composed specifically for piano by Liszt or Chopin but most people have never heard them and, as beautiful as they may be, they are not enriched by the personal history and connections most people have with more modern songs from Freddie’s Bohemian Rhapsody to Brian Adam’s Everything I Do. And a good piano teacher will start his or her career by using the emotional charge that these songs deliver and will grow from there.

And the best way to use the beauty of these songs in order to start getting paying customers is to let as many people as possible hear you playing the songs that they certainly love. For that you can use pubs and public venues but, ideally, you should also use the power of the internet. Many successful teachers started by posting a few videos in which they would teach students how to play famous piano and then creating a site where they would detail the secrets of their songs.

Developing your own piano music site also brings the added benefit that you can more easily direct traffic from the geographic area that you are willing to cover. That is because there is no point in charming someone from London into wanting to hire you as a music piano teacher if you leave in San Francisco and have no desire into moving to marry old England.

And the other great thing about starting to teach piano based on modern piano sheet music is that they are very easy to learn for a beginner because we have all heard them so often that we can keep up the tempo without any outside help and making learning the piano easy and fun is the only way to make a lot of money out of teaching it.
