How can I Make Money on the Internet?
Make-money-online

If you live in the United States you probably know how scary the economy is, and especially the Job market. Heck, no matter where you live the economy is tough right now. It's difficult out there and there's not a lot you can do about it unless you have special skills.

Welcome to the internet. I'm happy to explain how you can make a full-time living online, without having to do anything shady, criminal or MLM. The answer is Internet Marketing. Or, in particular, Affiliate Marketing.

I've been involved in Affiliate Marketing for quite a while. In fact, I even teach others how to make money with Affiliate Marketing and I get paid for it, too. I have plenty of experience and I'm always learning new things. I love this Business and I love getting others involved in this industry, too!

Affiliate Marketing is not Multi Level Marketing. It's not a scam, you do not have to pay a lot of money to get started either. You do not need to go to a University or have a degree. You will actually be your own boss. You'll make your own hours, set your own schedule, go out to eat when you feel like it, spend more time with your kids, work on the beach, etc. Well, you may not want sand in your laptop, but you get the point. You'll be able to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have Internet access.

So, what is Affiliate Marketing? I have a saying that I believe is a great explanation for what Affiliate Marketing really is. It's like being a sales person for a company without having to physically meet someone and talk to them. You're creating a "middle man" environment by either paid advertising on sites like Google or creating your own website. "Create my own website"!? I hear you, but trust me - it's not as difficult as you think. I promise you that 'building' your own website is not that hard. In fact, I'll explain to you how you can do this with a few simple clicks later!

Affiliate Marketing is not Rocket Science. I know plenty of people that had absolutely no clue about how to get started in this Business go on to become very successful. More successful than they would have ever been at their daily jobs, financially and mentally. You don't need a degree and you don't need to be computer savvy.

The first thing you need to understand how affiliate marketing works. Affiliate marketing is much like being a salesperson for company, yet you get to work with any company you choose to. In fact affiliate marketing is much like working for many companies at any given time, as you can easily make sales for any company you want from the comfort of your own home. For instance, imagine that you wanted to sell products from Best Buy, Sears or any other major company. With affiliate marketing you can do this very easily. Most major companies seem to be moving towards affiliate marketing these days, as it provides them with an easier channel to market the products and make more sales for fraction of the cost.

So how you get paid from these companies? Every time someone clicks on your affiliate link something called a "cookie"  is dropped onto the users machine, and this cookie provides details of your account/link, which gives you credit for each sale. Every cookie has a lifetime. This lifetime may only last 24 hours on some affiliate programs, such as Amazon Associates. But many programs have 365 days, or until someone else's cookie overwrites your cookie. Yes, you read that right... your cookie can be overwritten by someone else, which is why, as Affiliates, we want to close the sale then and there. We'll cover this later, but do keep in mind that we want to make the sale at that moment, or figure out a way to get them to click our affiliate link again before they buy the product or service.

Where do the customers come from? Most of our customers will come from Search Engines, such as Google.com or Bing.com. But other times we may use sites such as Facebook.com or other sites to get "traffic" from. Traffic is the term we use to explain potential customers/clients. Traffic is basically people coming to our site, much like "foot traffic" is people walking into offline stores. We use Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click Advertising and various other methods to get this traffic to our site. From there we will focus on either making the sale or getting their contact information (usually just name and email address).

Do I have to be technical to do this stuff? Not at all! In fact, most of the people I've taught were not technical at all. Very few came from technical backgrounds. Well, at least "technical" as far as computers go. You don't need to know how to program/code, write HTML or even use Photoshop. All of these skills can be learned over time, but they're not necessary for now.

So far we've discussed how we get "traffic" (people) to land on our site and click our affiliate links so that our cookies are on their machines (computer, laptop, phone, etc). In the next part of the series we will go over these topics again in more detail, with a better explanation of how to get the customer, their email addresses (for more sales later) and hopefully even get the sale!

If you're feeling a little bit overwhelmed so far, don't worry it will get worse. Yes, I said worse. :)  I say this in a joking manner, but to also go ahead and scare away those of you who will give up too quickly. If you're that type of person, please don't waste anymore of your time. It's OK if this isn't for you. If not, be prepared to learn a lot of acronym's and explanations of things that you're not used to, much like starting a new career. Don't worry, it will not be as bad as you're probably thinking, and the end result for most people will be absolutely amazing.
