How can I advertise my Business Online?
Advertising online has become a Billion dollar business over the past decade and it's no wonder why. Online Businesses are becoming extremely important for most consumers. Great deals from Amazon, great shoes from Zappos, but most importantly - Small Businesses who are trying to reach local customers.
Over the past several years Small Businesses have been thriving off of local searches from Google, Yahoo and Bing. Companies like Yelp have also helped to raise awareness of what companies are best to deal with based on ratings and reviews.
I may be a bit biased here, but it's a great way to get free traffic to your site, and if you do everything correctly you can get a great amount of targeted (and hungry) traffic that can convert just as good as any other type of traffic, if not better.
Galoor.com provides plenty of opportunities to article marketers, but there are other sites out there if you wish to check them out! Just make sure they're high quality, which is something I believe we excel in.
Search Engine Optimization
I would recommend that you start with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) before going out and spending money to advertise your Business. SEO is a great way to get plenty of local traffic to your website. The beauty of "local" traffic is that people using their smart phones (iPhone, Android and even iPad) are able to do a quick search on Google to find your company just down the street.
These are targeted, local customers. This is where most local offline businesses are.
But, maybe your business isn't actually offline? Maybe you're wanting to promote your new website? Well, SEO, as a general method for traffic generation, is the way to go.
Here's the thing. When you decide to really learn how Search Engines work, you will get a great understanding of how people will find your own website and how you can better target those users. You'll discover ways to market your site to the right demographics, using the right keywords.
With that being said, I have already created one of the most thorough SEO tutorials you'll find anywhere. It's a 3 part series and it links to other tutorials that will help solidify your understanding of how internet marketing works.
I have a very detailed Keyword Research tutorial here. By the end of those tutorials you will find your head buzzing with questions. No worries, I'm always around and you can ask questions in the comments section!
So how does one get started with advertising online?
Learning how to advertise can be costly if you decide to skip education and go crazy with "learning by doing." Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of information that you can discover by doing things yourself, but at times it can be more damaging than helpful if you don't learn the basics.
My first recommendation would be to learn PPC advertising.
Google AdWords is a great place to start advertising your website, although I wouldn't rush in without spending 4-5 hours learning the basics and getting a great understanding of the basics and follow that with the "what not to do's" with adwords. You'll find yourself going up a creek with no paddle if you don't spend the time to learn. We all want instant gratification, but advertising online can come back to bite you in the you know what. So, do yourself a favor and check out the various resources online.
Google has their own learning center here.
Bing/Microsoft has their own version of AdWords called MSN AdCenter. It works very similar to Adwords, so after you learn the ropes with adwords you should be able to use adcenter quickly.
Bing has their own learning center here.
Yahoo! currently has a contract with Bing to use AdCenter for their PPC ads, so you'll have to advertise with AdCenter (MSN/Bing) to target Yahoo!.
If you already have a decent understanding of how it all works, then go ahead and check out this tutorial on Keyword Theming. You'll find it to be beneficial once you get moving with your ad campaigns.
Types of Advertising Online
There are a lot of different ways to advertise your business online, so I'll give you a list below.
- Article Marketing - this is a free, easy way to market your website, including right here on Galoor!
- Search Engine Optimization - whether it's local or "global," you can use SEO to get great, targeted traffic.
- PPC Advertising - I linked to an article earlier in this article, so definitely check it out.
- Media Buying - This is the beast of getting tons of traffic, so I recommend that you try this after you've found success in the other methods!
- Video Marketing - If you have videos or you can make them, be sure to upload them on YouTube and other sites!
- Social Media Marketing - we have some excellent articles on the subject. It could be a great way to get traffic from sites like Facebook and Twitter!
- CPV/PPV - cost-per-view or pay-per-view. However you want to label it, it's there for the taking. I wouldn't recommend this type of traffic for most people, especially offline businesses.
Those are really the main methods that you'll find for online advertising, although some are not the best for your average Business. Be sure to stick with what you feel most comfortable with and don't rush into things. Learn the basics and then test with small budgets!
